TLJ Hotel Locking System
The locks we offer are slightly different to the traditional magnetic hotel lock. Our locks use “Contactless” – Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to communicate with the guest’s Key Card, this offers various advantages over using Magnetic Swipe Communication; some of which are illustrated below:
Drawbacks
Key Card is swiped in the door lock, this creates friction on the magnetic strip, causing scratches which inevitably makes the card unreadable by the lock. The average life span of a magnetic strip Key Card is 300 uses.
Can be easily De-Magnetised by even a small fridge magnet, making the card unreadable and hence needs replacing.
Limited data storage, due to restricted memory capacity, which makes it difficult to integrate cards with gymnasiums and restaurants.
Our "Contactless" Locks operate slightly different....instead of swiping the Key Card, the guest simply places the Key Card up to the front of the lock.
The lock then reads the information stored on the card by means of RFID, and grants or denies access to the room. This technology eradicates the need of a magnetic strip, and hence eliminates any friction and demagnetisation, meaning that "Contactless" Key Cards have an unlimited life span.
In addition, our Key Cards can hold up to 5 x as much information as a magnetic Key Card, which as well as making them future proof, can be of great importance when used to gain access to other hotel areas such as Gymnasiums.
Moreover, in most cases our Key Cards are cheaper than the traditional magnetic ones!
How It Works
Each Locking system comprises of the following:
- PC (usually located behind reception)
- Software + Encoder (how the cards are issued)
- Locks (pysical locks on the doors)
- Cards (the KeyCard to open the door)
Upon Installtion, each lock is issued a unique ID, so that it knows to which room it belongs. The software is also configured to suit your hotel – displaying all the rooms and different floors.
As a guest checks in, the receptionist or user selects the room number on the software to which the guest will be staying, and then inputs the guest name as well as the time and date of when the guest is due to check out. Once processed, the Encoder will write this information onto a blank card….acting now as the guest KEY!
The card will automatically EXPIRE by itself, if the guest keeps it past their Check out time & date.
TLJ Energy Saving Device
By taking advantage of the RFID technology, we are able to offer further benefits to the hotel and leisure industry, by means of "Intelligent" Energy Savers. These innovative devices enable hoteliers the capability to make substantial savings on electricity costs throughout their hotel(s), by requiring a Key Card to activate the rooms electricity supply. However unlike traditional energy savers, the "Intelligent" Energy Saver cannot be bypassed, meaning that a guest cannot cheat the energy saver by placing a credit card or business card into the device in order to continue using electricity whilst not present in the room. This is how Energy Saving Devices should operate, what’s the use in an Energy Saving Device that does not save energy!
